STOCK PLANS

In 2016, there will be numerous Class 319s transferring from GTR (whom gain 700s, and 20 387/1s move from Thameslink to Great Northern) to Northern Railway. The Pretendolino set will go off-lease from Anglia, ready to transfer to Transpennine Express*UPDATE: These movements occured as expected. The first of 29 387/1s are at Gt Northern, 90034 has gone off lease (and has seen use on the East Coast Mainline) as well as the Pretendolino.

This is followed by 3 150s from London Midland, and 15 from GWR, to Northern, in 2017. To make up for these lost units at London Midland they allegedly will take on 6 153s from GWR, whilst GTR receive new stock to make up their numbers.

Six 387 units are being built for C2C, entering service from Winter 2016 and on lease until 2019 when C2C gain a new fleet. **UPDATE: Units now beginning to enter service**

Sister 387 units have also entered service with the Gatwick Express, meaning just 442 402/406/408/ 410/413/419 ONLY are left, until these go into storage themselves.

In January 2017, the first of 13 Govia Great Northern 321s come off lease due to the arrival of 700s at GTR, displacing many of the 387/1s already, as do 10 TPE 350/4s which are cascaded due to the arrival. GA will take on the 321s, along with some GTR 317s, to boost capacity on their routes. Overhauls will be carried out to the stock - nothing major though because in 2019/2020, the entire fleet will be replaced. ** Update: Jan 2017: the first 4 of 10 of the ex Great Northern 321s have now moved to Greater Anglia **

Until then, their current 321s continue to receive the Renatus Overhaul (for some units), whilst other units receive a lighter refurbishment to seating, lighting and the general environment. The 10 317 units have been refreshed to an excellent standard for West Anglia, with other calibres of 317s to follow next. These units will ALL go off lease by 2020 once new stock arrives.

The 315s will be withdrawn in 2017 from CrossRail as a result of the arrival of new units.

TFL London Overground keep their 315s slightly longer until new stock is built, then these 315s are also withdrawn.

By Summer 2016, 4 TPE 170s went to Chiltern. Meanwhile, 5 ScotRail 170/4s arrived at Southern for Overhaul and Conversion into 171s. Class 385s began to be built by Hitachi too, and these will operate for ScotRail - in addition to this, Hitachi will also build 5 new units for First Hull Trains.

21 of the GTR 365s which WERE due to transfer to GWR will now not cascade, as additional 387s are being built for GWR. The new fate of all of the 365 units is currently unknown, though half will stay with Govia and will be fully overhauled.

GWR gain their 800s/801s, with full details provided here, as well as 37 Class 387 4-car units being built in Derby during 2016/2017 - many ready for service when this page was updated in Summer 2016!

In 2017: 54 HST power cars and many MK3s leave the GWR fleet, bound for ScotRail, a further 22 at GWR off lease too. This leaves just 43 at GWR, for use on shorter distance services whilst the 800s/801s are on the Penzance-London services.

A full summary of GWR movements is here. 323s from Northern are expected to transfer to London Midland by mid 2017. 12 GTR 317s appear to go off-lease in 2016 too.

The New Hitachi Azuma Fleet For Virgin Trains East Coast, Which Will Displace The 91/HST Fleet And The Carriages. Also, 5 new units are planned for First Hull Trains and also ScotRail class 385s enter service, both types of stock in 2017.

Meanwhile, the class 707s are to go public with South West Trains. With no toilets onboard to mean there'll be more suburban seating capacity, and with WiFi and 2+1 and 2+2 style seating, these 707s will run London Waterloo to/from Windsor (as well as many more destinations). More details of these units here.

In 2018, there will be 2 150s from GWR to Northern, 5 156s and 8 158s from Scotrail to Northern and finally 16 170s from Scotrail to Northern. Scotrail whom lose these DMUs gain 80 Hitachi 385 Units to make up the numbers. **UPDATE 11/12/16: First 385 unit arrives for Testing**

Meanwhile, 717s will begin to replace current stock on the GTR Moorgate-Hertford/Welwyn services. There'll be 25 fixed formation six carriage trains (150 carriages replacing the current 132 carriages) providing much needed capacity on the line. These units will have air conditioning, modern passenger information systems and 2x2 seating.

In 2019/2020, the entire GreaterAnglia fleet will be replaced. The Sprinters and 153s are anticipated to be withdrawn, whilst the 170s, 360s and 379s are fairly new so they'll sure to be snapped up somewhere. One MK3 coach rake goes to the A1 Steam Loco group, though the future of the other 11 or so sets is unknown.
